Cargill beat- River Tay Report

Cargill beat- River Tay. This last week has been dissapointing in that a few fish have been seen in the low clear water conditions, but running through in small pockets they have been coming short with lots of follows but few hooked. When hooked the encounters have been fleating. It has been a very hot week with the river running low and clear again after last weeks rain. Fish have been coming to the fly and the low water is providing lovely conditions for fly fishing. Highlight of the week was a very large fish which was hooked in Clocksden on the upper beat on a size 10 casacade. Hooked in the tail it continued to push into the pool and then sulked on the bottom for a good 10 mins doing very little until it rubbed the leader through. Very unlucky for angler Chris who did little wrong but ultimately lost which would have been his first ever salmon. Weather for next week is to be again dry with clear skies. The river height is now off the gauge at -1" so when numbers of fish begin to push upstream again conditions will be favourable.
