Cargill beat- River Tay Kenny Scott casting a fly in Clocksden.
Kenny landed 3 kelts today and dropped a few more fish. The river is running clear and is continuing to settle after recent high water. Spring salmon are present in the river so there is always a chance for an early fish.

The beat is full of kelts and late spawners just now providing plenty of sport harling, spinning and on the fly.

A couple of rawners caught harling today. The river had dropped back to around 4ft. Ideal conditions for early spring fishing.

Cargill beat- River Tay 17ft flood subsiding
The photos below show that the water reached the 7th step on the path up to the top hut. The boats ended up in the carpark and judging by the chains had a rough night.

Cargill beat- River Tay High river level take shine off opening day.
Not much fishing was done at Cargill on opening day in the high river levels and torrential rain yesterday. Consequently our road into the beat washed away in a flash flood as we were leaving. The river has now hit 15ft and is still rising.

Cargill beat- River Tay Rising river after snowmelt.
As happens so often just before the seasons opening there has been rain a thaw and a flood. The river hit over 6ft this afternoon and was continuing to rise. However the should still be plenty of Kelts to catch in the opening days.

Cargill beat- River Tay Boats on ready for the new season.
The boats are floating ready for the Tay opening day on Saturday. The river is currently in good condition sitting at 1ft 3inch and clear. Hopefully the impending thaw at the end of the week doesn't result in a flood.

Cargill beat- River Tay Ready for the new season.
All our preparations are finished for the new season. Anticipation is building for a good spring. There was a return to freezing temperatures today as the mercury only rose to -7 which results in a falling river, which will hopefully persist till the season opening.

The river is sitting at a good height with opening day getting closer by the day. If levels remain the same early fish are possible.

Cargill beat- River Tay Bridge stream
A great fly pool on upper Cargill. With shallow water fish are easy to cover with fly tactics. Fish can be targeted here from early spring onwards.
