Cargill beat- River Tay Returning 15lb springer yesterday

This is Dave Wilmot making sure his prize returns to the river unharmed yesterday. Think the water temperature gave him a surprise though. Well done Dave on your first Tay Springer. The water is clearing after recent high water. With big spring tides this weekend fingers are crossed for some more cracking spring salmon making there way upstream.

Cargill beat- River Tay 15lb springer on fly

Dave who travelled up to the Tay from the River Ribble in Lancashire landed a cracking sea liced springer today fly fishing from the boat in the bridge stream. Heavily sea liced, this fish was typical of the stamp of fish being commonly landed on the Tay just now. This is our biggest fish on the fly so far this year.

Cargill beat- River Tay Water conditions settling

The water has finally settled clear in the main stem of the Tay. Although running around 4 ft still it is crystal clear. This allowed for plenty of action on the fly in the Maggot today. 6 kelts/baggots/rawnwers from this pool and plenty more harling through the rest of the beat. No springer today but with settled weather forcast for the week hopes are high. Below is a big baggot being played on the fly rod in the saugh bush.
